yeah, i did have the lows cranked up at around 80-100hz but it sounded woofy with no real note distinction, and there were no high passes used either.
i made sure on the pre and board that they weren't switched on. maybe it's the bass i used, it's a shitty $200 ibanez with old strings.
here's the gear i used:
soundcraft spirit m12 board
studio projects vtb-1 pre (for DI bass and vocals)
m audio delta 1010
rokit krk 8 monitors
cubase 2
blue tubes compression and eq (on the bass)
one mxl 991 for overhead drums, 57 on the snare and a d112 on the kick
guitars were direct, it got that twangy effect,
which i'm not sure if we'll keep for the e.p sessions or not.
we'll experiment.
vocals were done on an akg c1000 (notice how bright they are? not really an artistic choice) since i don't have the shockmount for
my mxl 990, but soon i'll have one of those for the e.p sessions as well.
a c1000 on the acoustic guitar and piano stuff.
various reverb and reverse effects on the guitar stabs/piano section. i don't quite remember what exactly we did on those parts again. anyway, that's all i can remember at this point.
thanks for the compliment
the other songs we've recorded (which are all rough demos as well) are on the website
