don't blame the musician if there is an easily fixible problem is the short version.

i guess the goal is not relying on tools/crutches for someone's sound - and i'm down with that ideal. however, this isn't a hard fix most times. i would never ever ask a bass player to go home and practice if this cropped up...i'd take care of the problem. this is a part of the gig. i may point it out so they can work on it if they want, but i will fix it in no time...

if you don't have the chops to fix this situation - don't point at the bass players chops...(unless it's like - insane. :D) learn how to deal with this...it comes up a lot...i edit out string clicks all the time just by spot erasing...takes 2 seconds and saves an otherwise good take/ sound.

A good point, however, sometimes problems like this are hard to fix. It's sometimes easier to retrack or to bring in a hired gun to record the track.

BTW, how would you take care of it?
EDIT: never mind, you said you would highlight and spot erase.
What would someone do who is working on an analog system, like the Tascam 414mkII???

hey - you'd use a deesser (a frequency dependent compressor) on an analog rig. i do on mine...i mix everything analog...the 263 is a deesser....it's 50 bucks tops.

or you can throw an eqon a sidechain of a comp and set up your own deesser...

i've been there on the mission impossibles...i'm with ya there.

see ya!

Yeah, I know what a de-esser is. I have one in the myriad of plugins I have aquired. I just never thought of using it on anything but vocals. I am going to have to give it a shot if I ever get to my gear before the new year.
Thanks!

Would like to know how you do that. I have a small click on a 2 minute audio guitar track. I was a bitch to get down. Its all great except for string click at end- -aaargh :( - I have Sonar 5. They have a waveform editor, but it completly baffles me. What do you use?

i use my ears...i use hd 24 which doesn't have any wave form editing... so i copy the track in case of error and get cleaning with the cut funtion.. i've spot erased on analog as well but it isn't as precise as the hd24. da38's punch well enough to do pretty easy as you roll...

in fact i just did this with a stand up track that had sting to neck noise...a 3 minute song with about 50 edit points took 20 minutes tops...you can get zoomin after a bit...

i'm sure someone can help ya in sonarland...it's actually really easy in the computer...draw it down oy take it out by inserting silence and copying the note from somewhere else if it's noticable...

Mike

Rokket had the answer. Pick up the instrument and do it again....Stopped practicing a ways back, so it was good for me. Probably was way faster in the long run. But i will experiment with those ideas. And find out why Sonars wave editing sucks, or I suck at reading the manual.......
