Greetings,

I haven't posted a song on here in quite awhile, but i love this site.

Now, down to the knitty gritty... I would love some feedback on mixing, song composition feedback and if anybody is inspired to offer up a bass line that would be great!

as far as mixing goes... to my ear, the song (at this point) has turned out pretty OK... as stated above there is no bass track so maybe the guitar has too much bass at this point, idk. any feedback would be appreciated!

If you do listen, i really appreciate you listening! Cheers :)

That's pretty cool, man. I like the vocal treatment...is that double tracked and hard panned?

Mixwise, I want to hear more of the drums, particularly the snare...but I think you laid them back on purpose, and it's pretty effective. It's almost like the snare is nothing but ghost and the overheads are really pronounced. Sounds weird to me, but when I turn off my critical listening self and just enjoy, the lack of drums doesn't bother me.

The vocals are pretty UP FRONT...I think it fits the general vibe/genre just fine, but I hope a bass line helps even this out and glue it together a little better. Right now, it feels like the vocals are sort of sitting right on top of the mix instead of in it...at least to my ears.

Nice tune.

[edit] - sorry I can't help you with a bass track, but I'm begging for one in my own thread, hahahaaaa...

if you guys need some bass laid down PM me .
i am so down to do this.

I really like this track stringtheory. Love the spread vocals and the laid back snare. Excellent.

I can hear plenty of potential bass riffs in there and would love to come up with something for you, but not sure I can put it together technologically speaking...may have to give it a go though...

Thx for the insight chrisharris. The vocals are panned, one track is slightly left while the other is fairly far right. the slightly left track also has a surround sound effect applied. I wish you luck in getting a bass line :)

shortedaman, I'd appreciate you giving the bass line a go. I'll pm you.

heatmiser, ty! Let me know what tech issues you're worried about. I'd love it if you gave the bass line a shot.

thx for listening!

Are you saying you don't have a volunteer yet? I'll do it. I like the song.

Send me an unmastered mp3 of the mixdown.... I'll return a WAV bass track. In whatever resolution you want.

Can't play the HF version. But it has a real '68-ish Ray Davies sound and feel to it.

Hey, the problems are many, but I tried it anyway 'cause I really like the song.

I record to tape, so I downloaded your mp3, burned it to a disc, recorded the disc to tape, played bass along with it, then made a really quick mix back to CD, ripped that back to mp3 and then put it on soundclick for you to check out. Through all the conversions and whatnot, your original tracks sound awful now (as does the bass:p), but the quality of bass track itself is ok, so if you're at all interested let me know and I can send a higher quality version of just the bass to you separately. Again, the mix here is horrible, but just wanted you to hear everything togeher...

I hope you don't mind that I used soundclick...I buried it on my 2nd page and removed the download option as it is not my tune.

Thx heatmiser. I don't mind at all that you posted it to soundclick... I will take a listen later tonight when i get back to my comp. I really appreciate it!

This sounds cool. It's swinging.

I like heat's bass - it fills in those lower frequencies well, but the overall fidelity and cool vocal seperation suffered from the digital to tape and back to digital conversion. Not to bad though. Heat...I might have stopped the bass during the breakdowns. Still cool to hear the song with bass.

Thanks. Yes, this mix is useless except possibly just to get a rough idea of what the bass could sound like. I thought about stopping entirely during some sections, but when I tried it - it just sounded too empty. Maybe he could simply cut out the bass during those sections?

I dunno...anyway, don't hold your breath or anything stringtheory :o:D.

Just listened to the bass line heatmiser. I like it! I will use it if you feel like making atleast a 192 kbps version. Also, the guitar in the second chorus has one different chord from the first chorus. Just replace the C with an F and it will work, and above all thank you very much for going through the effort! :)

I never would have thought to mix this song the way you did (non-center lead vocals, snare super low) but I'm glad you mixed it and not me, it sounds killer and very fresh to my ears. It stands out a lot.

PM sent...

I removed the tune from soundclick since you've already heard it and the mix was horrible. Actually, I tried a Bb insead of the C the 2nd time around and it sounds pretty good. There was already an F in there right after that...

Two people were kind enough to offer up bass lines for this song, Thank you!

I would love to get some feedback on which one you guys (gals) like the best or which one you think fits the song the best. I know the mixing isn't very good, but I'm just looking to get your take on the bass and your likes and dis-likes with how each one works (or doesn't work) with the song, thank you. :)
