Ive been working with the a beta52 on my yamaha yd bass drum, and th sound is decent so far, but i want a much rounder and denser punch, and Im running out of ideas, Do i just need better gear or is this possible with wht im using?

its all about mic placement. you must move the mic around until you find the sweet spot.
or try using 2 mics on it. like a 57 on the inside near the beater and another more outside.

Ya, what mentil69 said. Also, consider getting a MIDI trigger system or the software, Drumagog.

Ya I dont really have the option of using two mics now as all my mics are in use, and Ive been experimenting a lot with placement but i just cant get the sound to be as fat as i want it. Also, can you explain this midi triggering youre talking about?

Remember that if you want a round, dense punch, the kick needs to have a round, dense punch before you even stick a mic in it.

So in addition to mic placement, have you messed around with head selection, tuning, muffling and technique?

Ya i dont think my yd bass drum can get that fat punch naturally so i might just have to invest in a new bass drum. i think youre right,
