Just heard Back in Black (the song) on the radio, and that has just got to be the best fucking bass drum I've heard...

IMHO

Yes, but...

The production on that whole album is certainly amazing. Mutt Lange is a genius.

However, you might wanna watch the language, bro. It doesn't bother me, but I'm sure there are folks here that would take offense. Just some food for thought.

Peace Bud...

Relax, It's just a figure of speech.... You have 45 posts here, so you must have encountered a bit of language before my posting.....

Swearing is ok here, as long as it's not used in a hurtful way.... and use it only occasionally.....

If one starts swearing AT people and using the F word in every single post... thats a different story...

You will find lots of language if you surf the bbs enough..

I was using it to express how taken aback I was about the bass drum sound...

And Im quite a loser, and very uncool so I wouldn't wish for my "coolness status" if I were you...

Cheers dude..

I was just listening to the cd when I saw this post. I have not heard this stuff in years. The drums on the whole cd are incredible sounding.

I think there's a poll somewhere proving that exact point, Vox :):)

Yeah, I started that poll... Im the first to admit it... He He

Don't know how he did it butwhen I listen to most any of their stuff, the drums are always in your face, no reverb to speak of, just dry and real close, in your face. Phenominal

It is a neat sound... Usually, to get that huge power sound, you need a big gated snare sound with a big reverb... The way Mutt Did it for Back in Black, sounds just as powerful, yet relatively dry.

If you notice, the Bass drum sound on B I B is very close to the bass drum sound on Nirvana's Nevermind...

Those 2 albums have such a great Bass guitar and Bass Drum relationship....

If you have the album Nevermind... Check out "Come as you are", right at the part, where Kurt sings "..And I swear that I don't have a gun"...

What a powerful bottom end mix....

Fuckedy Fuck Fuck Fuck

Had to do it.

Probably just a great drum in a killer room with killer compression and a gate.

NWsoundman

Stop fucking swearing you fucking goof...

It's very fucking rude..

how they get that sound on "nevermind"? $$$

how they get such a compressed and limited sound on "take off your pants and jacket (blink 182)" $$$

$$$ is answer to everything.

Okay, I too luv and covet the AC/DC drum sound. Now, in a somewhat unrelated question, am I the only one who hates the sound of gates on drums? I would never again track with them, having learned that lesson the hard way. Using them in a mix is a last resort to be considered in the same contemplation as replacement with samples. Just hate what they do to the natural organic sound of real drums. YMMV.

You are correct....

But....

Drum tuning, Players talent, Producers talent, Engineers talent is a bigger part..

You must be new around here...

i don't care for the language and i'm not new around here...anyways what does being new have to do with foul language...amazing how some have Zero regard for offending others by throwing it in your face...

now back to the kick...there's not much i don't like about AD/DC. probably the only issue i have is i find the mixes a bit on the thin side, but that's probably due to all the other stuff i listen to that has absolutely no sonic voids at all, like GodSmack and Creed. although Tool can be fairly sparse at times but not thin. still i love that Guitar, Bass, Kick line...
