This was just done as a test for a friend. Recorded using 3 mics, 2 MXL 991s on guitar and an AKG c214 on vocals. Played/recorded in 1 take, only reverb added.

What would you do to this one?

Death metal drums! lol!

I would add a subtle delay (sent to reverb) to the vocal to give it a bit of depth. Possibly a bit of chorus on the fiddle. But that just me.

Sounds good tho man.

Can you explain what you mean by sending the delay to the reverb?

Good song, and you have a good voice too, nice job. One thing that bugged me was the pick noise, maybe re-track with a stiffer pick / softer angle on your attack. The guitar sounded nice and full so I wouldn't want to fiddle with mic placement.
It's a great start to build on, are you planning on adding bass, drums, etc.?

This is a friend of mine, not me. On this we aren't going to add much. The idea is to track some of his originals as single take "live" sessions and make videos for youtube.

We have plenty of other songs we are working on that are "full" releases.

Here is one just for listening fun. Not finished, still needs plenty of work.

Good lord, who squeezed his balls for that note? jk of course, you have a lot of cool things going on there, I like the bass sounds a lot, and the quick-rise to snares towards the end, great melody and arrangement also.

Send vocal to a FX channel with delay. Send the output of that delay to a reverb. It softens the delay so it isn't so 'in front'. Can add a bit of air and depth to a vocal without being overbearing.

To add a little: There are some reverb plugs with Pre-Delay which will do the same thing.

Nice song. Good tonal balance.

Jimmy, are you talking about stacking FX? For example, you have a delay on fx 1, reverb on fx 2. you would send the vocal to the delay with fx 1, go to the delay return channel and send it via fx 2 to the reverb unit. Correct? Thanks

Yes there are, but not typically what I would use myself. It really depends upon what the OP has at hand.

Well, there are different ways of doing that. It depends on the DAW.

Basic idea is to send vocal to an FX bus with delay (not inserted to the track itself). I suppose you could just insert a reverb on the delay FX track, but that is just not how I typically do it.

I would create a separate delay FX track in Cubase for the vocal, then send 'it's output' to the reverb FX track. Usually in my projects that would be one of 3 reverb FX tracks I am using.

Again, this is just the way I do things myself on the DAW that I use. Not necessarily the best way to do it. It was just a suggestion...

Cool. That's something I hadn't tried before.

The only problem I am having now is the bleed from the guitars in the vocal mic. When I add delay it becomes pretty obvious, I could be adding too much though. I will keep playing with it.

Good singing voice.

I thought the guitar sounded OK.

There was something unnatural about the vocal. Some sort of weird delay or reverb or something. For a song like this, I'd definitely go with something more natural sounding. The vocal is a little boxy sounding too. Also caught some small distortion on the louder parts of the vocal.

I was wondering when someone would say something about that. We tracked that in a walk in closet that was completely empty with no treatment or anything. Just a guy, 3 mics, a guitar and a closet.

I decided to try your method on another track I was working on for myself Jimmy. It goes give a cool full sound like that. I will have to play around with it more on some other stuff. I like it.

Nice song, pick attack a little annoying. Decent recording. I would like to hear this song with a full ensemble.
