I built the new DAW PC, with the help of some friendly folks on this board. I downloaded Reaper, bought Addictive Drums, bought a Line 6 UX2. Have a Yamaha S-90 keyboard & active monitors I (OK, my kids, really!) use with it.

Goals: Record guitar, vocals, keyboards into Reaper, mess around with them. Will be using software drums - not live drums. Will be using the ux2 to input the guitar signal to the DAW, either direct or using a mic on a cab.

Needs:

1 - Gotta hook up the keyboard so it will go into the DAW and also through the monitors for regular playing. Also, need the monitors to play all sounds from the DAW. Wondering, mechanically, how to do this? I would like my kids to be able to play piano without turning on the DAW, but worst case, I can leave the DAW on all the time. Need help on how to route the gear so I can get guitar & vocals & keyboards into the DAW, get sound out of it into the monitors. For instance, I may want the monitors playing a track back to me while I'm tracking a direct guitar signal. I think the UX2 will do this on its own, but I'm not sure if it will get the keyboard into the DAW. I'm thinking a mixer might be helpful? Can anyone help here?

2 - If I need a mixer, can you suggest an inexpensive 4- or 6-channel mixer that doesn't suck tone?

3 - I will record guitar directly in through the UX2. I will also experiment mic'ing guitar amps. I am planning to purchase one of the GLS SM-57-type mics. Good choice? If not, I can pony up for a real SM-57.

4 - Will the GLS also work for vocals? Or, should I think about a separate vocal mic?

5 - Given the quality level of the rest of my setup, what mic would you suggest to put "across the room" for some ambience? Probably in the sub-$50 range.

6 - Need headphones. Several threads on this forum, so I can check those pretty easily.

7 - I bought a wireless mouse. Any issues with the "wireless" connectivity interfering with recording? Should I buy a "wired" mouse?

Thanks in advance!
