Hey all, I'm new here and also a beginner in the studio...I'm releasing a CD in less than 2 weeks on May 9th..and pretty much have all of the recording done, just 4 more vocal sessions to go. I'm using ProTools through the MBox on a Mac PowerBook G4 to record and mix/produce as well. I'm having extreme anxiety and trouble with the mixing and mastering process. After I have each session complete and mixed, what should I do to master the CD? I don't have the type of budget to bring it to a professional studio masterer, and this CD is my first album that I'm just trying to have fun with and gain an experience level, so mastering my own material would be my first choice. I don't have an AIFF-MP3 converter on this computer, but by tomorrow I will post some of my mixes on here to get tips from you all (I've been told that I could recieve good feedback from professionals on this board). Any basic tips of words of encouragement would be great. I pretty much have the most trouble with the levels of bass in the drums..and I admit I don't completely understand the way compression works. 8 of my tracks that I have "mixed" sound very good in my car stereo with my bass boost on and also good with it off or in my home stereo system. Is there anything I can do to ensure a good sounding final product on all forms of speakers, with bass boost or not? Thanks for your help and I'll get back tomorrow to post some of my material.

Try listening to your mixen on as many different speaker systems as possible to get a better perspective. You also have to think about where you want it to sound best. If you're gonna tweak your mix to sound amazing on 2000 dollar Dynaudio monitors, it's not gonna sound so amazing in your car. It's always a compromise.

My personal opinion is that car audio is extremely bad, always. I've not hear a decent sound system in a car, regardless of cost. It doesn't make sence to me to put so many speakers and so much power into small box like a car anyway. And the bassresponse, well, same thing basicly.
