what's the new signal path and new strategy?

sounds good to me. nice even mix. how did you record the banjo? I have a banjo but have never been able to get a decent track... partly because of my playing.. ok.. mostly because of my playing.. but partly because I can't get a decent tone on tape.

as always from you, a song you can smoke to..

Something sounds a little strange with the groove to me.. I dont know, but it sounds a little off even thought it's a machine.. cool banjo.. the vocals are good, but seem to slip out of tune a few times.. cool song though..

the new signal path is just mics to preamps to recorder.

no more extras like compression.

simpler cleaner.

the new strategy is a brighter sound with EQ and less lows. i compared with old motown and it sounded right.

the banjo is like they do on tv. LD condenser not too close.

ha ha the groove is a little strange on some of the fills. its not a drum machine its a sampler and the fills are sampled in real time to the tempo of the tune cause i cant sequence the triplets along with the regular rhythm.

my vocals are off sometimes. if i ever work with a producer we can do 15 takes and they can patch together something better...
i tried to do another harmony part above the others and it was waaaaay off!

i also tried to put some fiddle in ha ha ha. forget that! i have a cheap fiddle and they forgot to put the frets on it.

:p

i love the tune.............i really love this type of instrumentation..........sounds a lot like 'you ain't goin nowhere' by dylan.......not the melody, but before the singing came up, the changes sound very similar, and i was singing, "clouds so swfit........"

busted!!!!

thats the woodblock thing i was talking about and it comes from that song!

the changes are the same!!!

i admit it i did it!!!

the word style and delivery are from dylan too. luckily he's not the only one i can copy.

ha ha ha.

:)

but does it sound good?

Interesting song. Missing a lot of low end though, I hear some semblance of a bass line poke through now and again. Very spare part, a few more and melody on the bass track would help the song out lots.

How aboot another section to the song? The same chord pattern over and over gets a tad repetitive.

Good vocal melodies though, and the banjo sounds pretty cool.

Great lyrics!

When the toilet won't flush, man you know it's gonna be one of those days!:D

This is definate Woodstock III material!

Your sound is much,much better.
Instruments sound sweet, and your voice is really big and out front.
I especially liked the guitar and mando solo's.
Banjo was cool too.
(Was that spoons I heard?):)

Really great job Jeap, you always get me laughin, thanks.:D :D

Best to you,
Pete

wow now this is defeinately different it sounds great and what a creative idea. the mix sounds very good and i wish i could get my panning set this good lol. mine always bleeds together. very nice upfront voxs on this they realy stand out. thanks for sharing this tim pate

the bass is sposed to sound acoustic but i didnt work very hard on it.

it sustains too much.

if it wasnt there at all it would sound weird.

lots of times with acoustic bands you can hardly hear the bass.

my other stuff has been too bassy so i tried to cut some out this time! more of a crispy sound.

theres no spoons although i have 3 sets of spoons and am planning to use them and my sandpaper blocks too.

theres a woodblock.

thanks muzeman im glad you think its sounds much better! i actually referenced a cd while tracking and mixing! old motown!

the panning is a formula i use to do it fast. i pair things up like hihat and woodblock and banjo and mandolin and i put them different ways. i dont pan hard. i try to imagine a soundstage where everything is kinda close and then the banjo player may be off to the side and the mandolin player on the other side while the hats and woodblock are close to the center.

thanks everbuddy!

:)

you ain't goin' nowhere for sure! Very cool. I think you called it right with the bass.....bluegrass type bands often have the bass down in the mix so this sounds authentic. The banjo is way cool....maybe you ought to see if David K would stick some fiddle on it. It would definitely put this over the top.

This is really cool, jeap! :D

Really interesting instrumentation, nice lyrics... kinda sarcastic... dig it :) Good all around.

yeah it sounds good! if there's anyone to copy it's mr.bob. anyhow, you've got your own melody..........influenced by, yes.....copied,no..........i love this kinda stuff........pop style songs with traditional instrumentation...........like Uncle Tupelo's song 'New Madrid'....and can't get enough of this kind of stuff

Jeap, sounds very cool man ... quite a departure from "jiggy wit it" :)

you settle into the groove better later in the song ... bass cutting sure cleared things up ... I got to try that... you need some "chiken-pickin" lead with the banjo :D ... liked the brush samples too ... very cool dude ...
cheers

More good lines. I liked the way you set up a line for an easy rhyme and then didn't do it.

I finally figured out who you REALLY sound like... Ever hear of the kids singer Raffi? You're a dead ringer vocally.

Too funny! Very cool little diddy.

You have a great sound on this. I like the banjo a lot. Great lyrics and an interesting song. Just has a great "down-home" kind of feel to it.

Nicely done! :)

the first song i ever recorded multitrack was you aint goin nowhere on a tascam porta 1 in 1985.

i tried to do fiddle but the intonation wasnt there.

sarcasm? me? when the part about hijacking the plane came out i figured this must be my tribute to 9/11! ...nah.

well theres a poopload more where this came from!

jiggy is all a joke you know... if i COULD do chicken pickin that would be an option! im pretty sure i can fake it in the future but i wanted this to be easy.

raffi? nnnno... does he sound like jim morrison od'ed on valium? i dont know why i didnt rhyme. i write these things pretty fast so i dont have time to think about em.

yes easy down home is the sound i wanted. sittin on the front porch goofin around mistakes are mandatory!

i listened again and i thought maybe it could use a little more reverb???? of course the porch doesnt have much 'verb...

thanks for listening and commenting!

:)
