thanks sam.. no ebow yet.. that was a guitar doubled with a 'minimoog' type sound on the lead. Still drawing blanks how to finish it out...oh well...it'll come.

freshears.. you're going to love your banjo. Good luck. thanks for the listen

dtb... glad you made it around. Wanted the "master" to hear what I could do after a month! Strats and Joes... yeah, that sounds good for dinner!!

Emeric. also glad you took a listen and commented. Yeah..still struggling with the fingerpicking... BUT!! I am taking lessons!!
thanks for the visit.

smellyfuzz... I always think of navel lint ..lol .... thanks, dude for the kind mix remarks!

Strato... yeah, it has been kinda an mini-epic journey for me with this. Two months ago I couldn't tell you the names of the parts on a banjo. Now I own $30 Shelor finger picks:eek: I am still in the very beginning stages trying to figure out how my setup will cope with this thing best, what mic, etc. I am very much interested in keeping the banjo sound pretty much intact, but I certainly don't mind straying down the road of chorus's, reverbs, delays... anything to cover up!! thanks for the comments. Appreciated.
(I need to go back and re-listen to your banjo tune..hopefully it is still available)

So mixmkr, are you gonna put a melody on this track? I am hearing like major Neil Young ballad song type things and even starting to have lyrics pop in my head when I listen to this.

Cool. And better banjo sounds on this version.

As a big fan of doubling, I was interested to hear it. But the doubling's not quite working. I think the syncing issues are distracting too much. It's got to be exceedingly difficult on a banjo part I would think. I'd probably say to just leave it as a track on its own. Or spend countless tedious hours getting them synched. :D

But other than that, real smooth production.

I don't know how this slipped past me before...

I love this! Really good recording. Nice mix of instruments with the banjo. Unique sound. Inventive. Yes.

Any vox coming with this eventually?

Sorry, just saw this joke on the Guitars & Basses forum and I have to share it with you here:

Q: How are a banjo player and a blind javelin thrower alike?

A: Both command immediate attention and alarm, and force everyone to move out of range.

You just keep building on this thing! Very tasty guitar part! I think I liked the tone of the banjo on the first mix though. I know you're still workin the bugs out on this "tracking the banjo" thing. Dammit, I wish I could just pick up an instrument and start playing like you seem to have done with the banjo! I really like the feel of this piece.....well done!

I didn't hear the first version. Listening on new headphones at work so....

I liked this a lot. I loved the mood of it. I think the banjo coul come up in many spots IMHO. Especially if that is going to be the featured instrument. It especially seems to get a little lost in the midst of some of the synth sounds. Not totally lost, just not prominent.

It might be my imagination (or the headphones) but is this lacking a little bottom? It doesn't look bad on the little spectrum analyzer thingy on Winamp , but it seems missing to my ears.

Very nicely done. This is definitely goes into my keepers folder.

Impeccable mix

It's a movie soundtrack type thing to me.

Very clean, very good 'mix'.

I'm going to write to this with real violin and post, unless you object ?

i didn't hear the first version of this but i can say that a banjo was the last thing i expected to hear cutting through all that midi music! it's weird but i like it. sounds almost sitar like in this setting.

middleman... yeah, I actually, I have a melody and some vocals over this, but I will not probably post them. I am in the "banjo vein" as of now!!:D

mmm...yeah I cheated on the sync problem and nudged a couple areas on the computer...I just haven't posted another mix. Actually working on something new instead and plan on letting this sit for a while so I can figure how I might finish it up.

lynx...thanks... see vocal comment above...but I may change my mind;)

alchuck...ok easy on the banjo jokes.. (already know the one about "perfect pitch"...hitting the accordian on the first toss!)

bdbdbuck... playing guitar a tad has helped with the banjo, but the weird thing is the high "G" string where the low "E" usually is on the guitar. Other than that, and having the buttoms coming undone on my overalls, I seem to be doing ok!

jagular...on my system, the low end was wanting to "fart out" so I actually rolled off the bottom end a little bit...maybe too much.

studioviols... be my guest. I'd love to hear some added parts. Take anything that I have recorded and make us some money, eh??!!;)

erichenryus... actually the only sequenced MIDI is the percussion junk.. the rest I try to "perform out" ..but I suppose you are correct...it is all MIDI!! You know!!!...I heard the banjo sounding like a sitar too...especially as the background music became louder and thicker as a backdrop. I was losing the "twang" of the banjo and it was seeming to "morph" into a sitar. I heard the exact same thing!... since I am not that much a purist on stuff sounding "THAT" authentic, I didn't let it bug me so much. I think my banjo sustains quite a bit, and that has a fair amount to do with it..

I really am hoping to try and not be the "conventional joe" and just be another lousy "picker and grinner", but rather take my limited playing and try to do something different with it. Whether it really is or not, I don;t know as I haven't listened to much banjo music in the past, and Bele Fleck is just beyond comprehension, so I dare not try and emulate down THAT road.
I think something with an electric sounding background (or just synths) might be a lot of fun, and besides, that's the equipment I happen to own..

sidenote ....the ebow didn't even START to work on the banjo:(
and...I can't figure out how a whammy bar would attach either!!
