Hi im still looking to buy what i need to record on my computer..I got recommend band in a box by some dude and i wanna know if its good and what i need with that?I wanna record rock/metal music, vocals, drums, bass and 2 guitars..all by me with a drum program and bass program. Also what my computer needs for that.TX

Band-in-a-Box is not exactly what you're looking for. It's a program that can assist in writing songs in various styles. In it's simple use, you type in chord progressions and it plays them back using MIDI.

Now, it can play drums and bass lines for you, but to do all that recording too you'll need something else. PGMusic, the makers of BIAB, also sell a recording program called PowerTracks which is pretty darn good but like all of them a bit tough to learn.

You can find what your computer needs by looking at the recommended specs on their site: http://www.pgmusic.com

Covers or Originals ???

Originals
I use a MIXI editor freeware called JAZZ PLUS PLUS ( www.jazzware.com ) and create my drum tracks in a window that looks like graph paper.
You can use the mouse to click in the notes (drum hits) I create a pattern and "copy and paste" to create more bars.
Then, I do the same for bass in another track, using the mouse.
You can also enter notes via a synth or MIDI input controller

Covers
Find Midi's --- use a MIDI editor ( like JAZZ PLUS PLUS ) and delete the unrequired tracks, guitars, vocal guides, then re-save.

Some recording software allows you to have both MIDI and Audio tracks when recording.
IF NOT, there is a freeware called MIDIMEOW that can convert MIDI to Audio (WAV/MP3/OGG) if your recording software doesn't support MIDI.

If you're going to write your own drums and bass tracks do not buy Band-in-a-Box. It's not what you want.

PGmusic is the manufacturer of PowerTracks. With PowerTracks you can record your music. You can also write drum tracks and bass tracks - or any other instrument's tracks. You'll be using something called MIDI.

The sound quality of the bass and drum depends on the quality of your playback device - the soundcard in your computer (mainly). You can use add-on items like software-based synths to make the sounds better.

Here's a place with lots of info about MIDI and recording and lots more:
