I am going to be re-appropriating a large room in my house to a recording studio of sorts and realize that the flooring in the room is not ideal for the purpose. Currently it is a thin commercial carpet over rubber pad on concrete floor. I'm not about to put new wood flooring in, although I had thought about finding some cheap wood floor remainders and constructing a number of small square wood floor segments as 'mats' that could simply be layed over the carpet at select spots and moved about as necessary. I then recently saw some bamboo slat rugs at a local store that caught my eye. They could cover a fair amount of space at a reasonable cost and just may serve the purpose quite well. Also very easy to move about and situate on the floor as necessary. Anyone have thoughts on this? Rugs like this can be viewed at this link; www.naturalarearugs.com/bamboo-rug-mandalay.php

If you are using these to increase reflection or ambience in a room, I doubt if one unit would increase the rooms high frequency RT-60(decay) by very little, if at all. Unless you covered at least 50% of the floor, which wouldn't be a bad idea if used in patches, as the existing carpet will absorb the high frequencies out of the room leaving the sound somewhat dull, and depending on the size of the patches, they might serve to diffuse somewhat. But thats just a guess. I'd also suggest investing in some panels of 4" Owens Corning 703 rigid fiberglass for broadband absorption. They will do far far more for the acoustics of the room than one of these area "rugs". although thats not to say they won't help. There are tons of threads here explaining the use and placement of these panels.

I think its a pretty good idea for some things. i might get a 4x6 myself or a little bigger for a drum reflector. Might be cool for acoustic guitar too.

i like the idea.

I fthis were a commercial studio I might worry about the long term durability. If the costs in the website are typical then you might find that cheap laminate flooring is in the same category. On the other hand I have a cotton run on the tile floor in my sunroom that is wearing thin and I am thinking of one of those to replace it.
