Bad microphone?

Hi folks,
I just bought a Studio Projects B3 on eBay. I was testing it out last night. For the most part it sounds great, but every once in a while I hear this scritchy, glitchy sound, and I can't figure out if it may just be a loose cable or what the problem is. Usually the sound is just a quick click, but other times it a couple seconds long and is kind of a squeal. Have a listen for yourself: View attachment glitch.mp3

The XLR cable I'm using is brand new, and so is the Tascam US-800 that the mic is plugged into. Is it possible there's a problem with the mic? I don't think they used enough padding during shipping.

I have a B3 with similar problem (big distorted rumbling sound). I sent it in for warranty repair, and that seemed to fix it for awhile, but now does it again. I think some of it may be related to the pattern switch, so try switching away from the pattern you want, then back to it. The switch does not hold tight to any one pattern.

Also, I have found that if you let the mic warm up for 15 minutes, the rumbling problem disappears. This seems to work even when flipping the pattern switch fails.
 
Could be the XLR connection, when using phantom if the connection is dirty or loose there will be a resistance that causes the phantom to com and go or reduce the available voltage.

The same thing happens if you use a cheap mic lead with crap XLR's and rubbish cable.

There could also be a bad capacitor inside the mic, it could be charging and discharging which causes a popping noise.

And finally, there could be condensation on the capsule, leaving it in a warm room for a while will get rid of that.

☼ This would be my first guess other than a bad ground with in the microphone it's self. Then on to a bad cap!
