Backup vocals question?

On the backup vocals, would I pan them to the right or left or leave them centered? On one of my songs I only have one back up and was wondering if I should pan them to either side?

mess around with it.
double track the background vox and pan them left and right
or pan them and run them through a smooth chorus...
the sky's the limit!

it's all about what sounds better on a particular song. just remember that too much stuff on one side or the other makes for heavy listening. if you're not sure, be safe and stay around the middle. that's just my opinion though.
