What’s up fellas, it’s been a while since I posted anything new. Here are 3 new beats from my latest batch. These beats are definitely kind of different as compared to the stuff I normally do so please let me know what you think. The files are just snippets of the tracks, they only contain the intro, first verse and first hook of each track.

Set The Stage/New Beat 15
2Step/New Beat 17
You Never Know/New Beat18

Set the stage was pretty good. seems like a heavy thought type beat.

You Never Know wasn't to my taste sound like an 80's dance beat

2Step was tight. complex and full.

I didn't think the drum sounds worked good with these tracks. Set the stage ang 2 Step will sound alot better with different drums

Raticus and Hi_D_Ho,

Thanks for taking the time fellas.

Yeah, I hear you on that. Upbeat danceable tracks are not my forte, but I'm working on it. I need a few of these types of tracks for an album I have coming out.

I think you're right again. The drums on all of these tracks are coming straight out of a module, Kurzweil Me-1. I might replace them with better sampled drum sounds or I may multitrack the kit with EQ/compression/FX. I should be able to fill things out.

Again, thanks for the feedback fellas.

15 - I'm digging this one. Sets a interesting mood. Like you said in the description... Good story telling beat but i'd make it a duo bouncing back and forth while telling a story. Not some we on the same team bullshit but more like 2 points of view. Maybe a conflict.

17 - Heard this one before. Reminds me Miami Vice for some reason. I'd drop a gutter strip club song to this one ;) . Maybe cuz I like how the chorus gotta bounce to it. Maybe cuz we need a stripper joint right now:D. Don't know but i like the beat.

18 - Technoish... That vocal sample in the beginning  ... I'd probably have to gutter this one up some to even think about touching it. Way to bright for me. But not bad though... Wonder how it'd sounds screwed :D ... Too techno to touch but not a bad listen. Nice place to visit but too many colorful drinks in alien glasses :D.

I peeped the other tracks and you got some nice shit there. One thing I noticed is that your snares always come off kinda thin. Reminds me of my DR. 660 days (that a 660???). Might wanna try to beef em up some to give the tracks more overall impact. Nothing like a good heavy kick in the ass and a hard smack to the face to set your mind right.

Keep up the good shit dog. Peace to ya.

Lazi,

As always, thanks for listening man. I think you're right about the snare sounds I'm using. I have to admit I'm a little bit lazy in that respect. Usually when I make a beat I won't spend a whole bunch of time on it getting all the instruments, effects and timing perfect. I'll just pick some instruments, come up with a sequence and drop it on CD. Once a song is written and recorded I'll go back in and analyze every aspect of the track and fix where necesssary. Usually I'll take all the drums sounds into the sampler and custom tailor a kit.

BTW, I don't use the 660, although I may be using similar sounds. Most of my drum sounds are coming out of Roland modules, although I have been using the Kurzweil ME-1 a lot lately.

Thanks again for the listen man.

I remember 2step from quite a while back. Though still a bit techno-ish, I like what you've done with tha bassline here 2 make it go better with a hip hop song.

Set the stage is nice. I like mellower beats, though, I must ask: have u included the chorus in this? If u have then I think it might sound a bit better w/ more "umph" so that it definately sounds different from tha verses. Any1 heard Say What U Say? That wasn't necessarily a bad song, it's just the chorus and verse beats are almost identical (oh, and the beat was shit to begin with)

You Never Know, I actually quite like. It's different from everything else out there and rap songs over "pop"(though this isn't technically pop, but it's a similar idea) beats sound quite good actually and completely different.
e.g. check the net: there's version real slim shady w/ a britney spears beat somewhere, sounds completely different - some things better, somethings that aren't quite as good.

Abyyss,

Thanks for listening man. I hear you on "Set The Stage". Usually with my mellower beats I keep things pretty simple, hence not too much difference between verse and hook. You're the first to really point that out, I appreciate that. I'll think about that when I'm writing my next mellow beat.

"You Never Know" was really a wildcard beat. A local group I'm working with was looking for something with a little more of an synthetic-upbeat sound. This is what I ended up with.

I forgot that I uploaded "2Step" before. I have made some changes to it since then, but it's relatively the same.

Thanks again.

Hey, just keep 'em comin' I wanna hear tha flowing! :)

Oh, and by the way (while it's in my head) - I like ur logo, it kinda remeinds me of that J.R.R. Tolkein thingy, the way u've like got a symbol that if you look carefully enough you can see all the letters of ya' name.

Nice work, my logo's just boring : -

Abyyss,

Thanks for the compliment on my logo. I'm not exactly graphically inclined so I kind of just got lucky with the logo. It was actually something I drew by hand and then scanned into the PC and manipulated in MS Photo Editor. The original was pretty bland.

I checked your logo out and I think it looks alright. If you're looking to try out ideas, I would shoot for something that has something to do with depth. If you could somehow simulate a body of water and have your logo on the ground under the water I think that would be cool. Or maybe like a deep well with your name written at the bottom. Just some ideas, like I say I'm not graphically inclined.

On another note, sorry it's taking me so long to get back to you on the changes you made to the track. I've downloaded it, but I haven't been home yet to listen, at work I have no soundcard. I'll get back to you on that ASAP.

That's what I wanted, but I don't know how 2 do it either.

I'm naff w/ graphics, too.

Oh, and in ur e-mail u said about musical terms - forgot 2 add this in my reply back, but I understand them pretty much.
