Hey guys, I used to be on these forums a lot back a year or two ago and then I took a break from my music and just recently came back to recording and mixing. I have a new track that I've been working on for a while and wanted to get some feedback on anything that can be improved on. The guitars and bass were recorded by me and the drums are samples I mixed together. The thing that I can't figure out lately is if the cymbals sound right (especially the two crashs). I know you guys have a better ear for stuff and I appreciate any feedback. Thank you.

So I took jamesduysen's advice and EQed the guitars a bit. I like how they came out and any critiquing would be amazing. Here's the mix with the refined guitars.

Hey,

Cool riffs and I think the drums sound pretty cool. I am not really feeling the tone of the guitars. What amp did you use? I think maybe a little EQ could help. I think it would help the mix if you found a better place for the bass to sit to fill things out a bit.

I think the crash sounds pretty good, not too harsh.

Did you just dup the rhythm guitar and pan it hard to either side?

Nice song,

nice playing

I really like your playing, it's solid!

since when do you play ?

Thanks guys for the responses. Ya I'm still trying to find the tone I want for the guitars. Right now I'm just using amplitude for the the tone. The bass has been a tough one for me because of the fact that I play in drop A a lot. Most of my bass thumps at the 20hz range. It bumps with subs but I'm still trying to find a place for the midrange too. Thanks for the crash response too. The guitars are two separate tracks with a panning of 93% on the left and 93% on the right with a tuning of drop A. I've prolly been playing for 5-6 years. I want to record some new stuff because this song is like 2 years old lol. Thanks for the comments guys.

sounds good. I'm assuming there are plans for vocals. it's kinda hard to really judge the mix and song if there's no vocals yet. I'm sure with vocals the feeling of the song will either make or break the song. It usually does. So far so good though...

Yup I definitely want to record vocals soon. I already got some ideas but wanted to get the mix good first. Thanks man.

Well I EQed the guitars and edited the first post with my new mixed added. I think it helped a lot.

Thanks man. I appreciate it. Let me know if you guys like the new mix.

2nd mix is just as good as the first. Post the next song when you have it done.

Sorry guys I was away from my computer a lot this week. Thanks for the comments. I'm currently working to rerecord some old songs I recorded years ago. I can't wait to see how they sound on pro tools. I'll post them as soon as I get the guitar tracking done.

I think the cymbals sound alright... but they sound a bit too bright for this type of music. Try out darker cymbals, maybe a sample that goes along the lines of "metal crash" or "dark crash" or any sample that may have larger sized cymbals such as "18" or "20".

Nice mix though, reminds me of my days playing Dynasty Warrior
