Clown car chauffeur
I re-did this tune this morning, I wasn't happy with the first version.

This ones much better than version one, IMO.

Ooo... one of my Satch favorites. Ambitious tune to pick. I often look to this tune as a recipe for the up-beat guitar rock instrumental and the sound I most identify with him, though he has many others as well.

If I may ask, what were your goals with this one? From what I can gather, you tried to say pretty true to the original. The tempo is the same however something is lost in the feel. It lacks the drive of the original. The playing needs to be more foward on the beat perhaps. I see you did gave the solo section your own touch, which is, understandably, tamer then the original. ;) As much as I enjoy Satriani's blistering solo of the original, I feel your take demonstrates some musical sensibilities and structure. I wonder what people who haven't heard the original would think. You did a pretty good job getting some special effects in there. I find this aspect difficult, and if I manage it, it's by accident. I must say, I missed the wah pedal.

Given your like for this stuff, have you done any original material in this genera? If you have, I'd like to hear some.

When I bought my first digital recorder, the first song I did was a Satch ripoff, Crybaby and all. Being a bass/guitar player and years of digesting Flying in a Blue Dream, it was the first thing that came to mind. Since it is pretty clear you like this kinda stuff, check it out here. (Note: this link is NOT intended to hijack the thread.).

I was pleased to hear this song covered and to hear from other members that like this kinda stuff.

Hey Darren, thanks for the listen.

I have a bunch of tunes on the page link below.

My stuff is listed there also, but my stuff is closer to an Eric Johnson type of tone and sound I guess.
Hate to make comparisons like that, cause I suck and he doesn't. :D

I love to do this for fun and the Satch tunes always seem to pop up cause I love his stuff so much and his stuff is real fun to play/butcher.
I'm not good enough to launch into Satch type shredding licks and so I stick to what I am able to do.

It's just another one of about 10 hobbies I have that I enjoy doing for fun.

Here's your link.

see ya

Edit: Here's one of mine that I finished recently. Not at all like my usual stuff but I love this one.

sounds like you had fun doing this one....
it's got a loud mastering on it......
probably the loudest mp3 i've got in rotation right now....

good crunchy guitar tone.
you know, you could easily add some guitar harmonies on just a few of those signature lines in the beginning, like you do in the ending....
and add a real background-mixed tambourine that goes along with that funky hi hat beat.. and it might just drive it a bit harder.

Thanks Gonzo,
I did have fun doing this, this tune is a blast to play.
I like the harmony ideas, I'll play around with that and see what I can do.

Yep - LOUD..... but this is probably on par with the Finger Eleven CD I played the other night right after a few of my tunes. Loud seems to be the norm nowadays. You obviously have the right equipment for that - the details would be nice if you care to share.....

Gonzo is right - a few more harmonies on this would be sweet toward the beginning/middle. The ones at the end a very tasty.

Great recording job overall, mix is clean and well balanced. Playing is tight and groovin' ....... as always......;)
