It's been a while, but I'm a little tired of the vocal stuff. :D


Thoughts anyone?

 
Wow, interesting stuff. I'd ease back on the space a bit - those tails are so long that in places it sounds like sitar drone buzz. And what were you doing to get that heavy compressed hammered sound on some of the notes? Can you ease back on that, or is that the sound you got going in?

That was the sound going in unfortunately. Micing flamenco is really hard! I've yet to find the sweet spot, but I think I'm getting close it it.

I'll definitely ease off the reverb next time.

I listened to this last night and again this morning (missed it prior to then somehow?). The playing is really nice!

It's actually hard to reconcile that you are the same person doing those other, full band kind of tracks. They are so completely different from one another in every way.

Yes, many notes have an odd percussive quality to them, but I think I only focused on that as I saw it mentioned above. I like a lot of reverb, especially on a mix with few components, but maybe the tail on this is a little too much. I do think a heavy hand with the 'ole verb here works though. Some of those little runs are really impressive bursts. Well done. My dad plays classical guitar...but not like this. This is an actual piece by someone else I assume, not something you came up with yourself, right?

Thanks, heat! Yeah, this a Bulerias. The thing about flamenco is that there really are no songs, just outlines. I happened to copy Grisha Goryachev's (who I consider to be one of the best in the world right now) interpretation of a Bulerias. But even Goryachev copied that interpretation from Sabicas, who probably got his from someone else! :eek: I wouldn't mind incorporating a bit of Paco de Lucia's interpretation of a Bulerias in this to mix it up a little.

Really? That's interesting. I may do some reading about it. So, it's just like a basic framework with some recurring melodies that get reinterpreted in various styles by different players? Is there a lot of improvisation?

Definitely.

The types, or outlines, are Bulerias, Farruca, Fandango, Malaguena, and others that escape my head at the moment. Each have their own beat from which you can play.
 
While listening to this..........it occurred to me that I need to practice more. A lot more. Sure liked the piece and the I also liked the sound. Feels to me like it was one of those.........just gonna set this thing up and let it rip........kinda tracks. You know........the kind that can also be fun :) No right or wrong.........just is what it comes out as. And this came out nice.....really nice.

Thanks Mickster! Yeah, I've been trying to be less of a perfectionist and have just focused on having more fun with recordings.
 
I think the flamenco dancer was hitting your guitar with her hips every now and then, unless that was you tapping deliberately... :laughings:

Back off the reverb a little... like the others are saying - makes it sound a bit distant.

If you've HPF'd it as well, I'd move the frequency up a tad... although I'm only listening on small headphones, seems to be missing a bit at the bottom... although this could be my headphones of course, so feel free to ignore.
