Ultimately music is for listening, not watching,.

Sure, when you're listening at home. But live? Only a dummy doesn't appreciate a good visual performance to go along with the audio performance. You don't need pyros and platform boots, but you can't just fucking sit there.

I appreciate a good show, but that's not the meat of the performance.
I'm not suggesting all performers should sit,but if back pain is getting the best of you, you'll have to pick the lesser of two evils.

Lots of music is performed with minimal movement by the musicians,it's just that you have a very limited scope of music which you like,it also happens that music is more visually slanted.

Also Telepaul never mentioned if he was playing live or recording,in which case the whole stand/sit thing would be totally moot.

I started having a lot of trouble with my back last year from nightly gigging with heavy guitars ..... one is a Paul but I have a partscaster I built 35 years ago that's even heavier.
It got to where I started playing this stupid Yamaha POS .... RX-A2 or something like that. Light as can be (only 5 lbs) but shitty.

Finally I thought that 4 or 5 pounds shouldn't be enough to make that much difference so I started doing a little bit of exercise and some light weight training and I recently noticed my back problems seem to have gone away so maybe some exercise might help.

At the end of the day that's what it boils down to,are you going to cure the symptoms or the disease?:rolleyes:

OTOH you could get a Danelectro and fill it with helium.....

Exercise and weight training is a good idea no matter what instrument you play. I'm far from the most technically skilled drummer in here, but I bet I can play faster and/or longer than most simply because I'm in decent shape. At the end of a gig or a 4 hour practice, I'm good to go many more rounds while the other guys are sucking air....and beer.
