I just bought one.. about $200 from GC with a coupon for a free shockmount for it. Sounds good to me so far, I haven't played with it too much, but I recorded female vocals with it. Its real airy and thin sounding... Could be my placement, I'll let you know when I'm more comfortable with it.
How many different voxes are we talking about here? 'Cause I never like condensers on my voice, but they do work for most. Also I dislike the SM58 but then I have an SM7 and a Beyer M88 to compete with it.
I read some comment on another board where the talent thought the 8 Ball was really cool, whereas they never commented on every other mic. That could make the mic worth the price, if it causes the talent to give a better performance. The referrals along would pay the $200 pretty quick.
Check out the tune in the clinic that I posted, I recorded the female vox with the 8ball. I did add reverb and compression. I didn't save the raw track.
Damn that is pretty hot. It has that presence peak just like in the BLUE specs. I'm gonna have to get this. This could totally be on an evil version of a No Doubt album.
What were the backing vocals recorded on? Same mic?
PS there is no way an SM58 would ever sound like that.
