I was reading through a thread and someone mention Avatar Cabs. I've never heard of them but I was wondering if anyone could tell me about them. Whether they are really good or not because they are very inexpensive.
thanks

haha ok well what do you think of the Carvin Legacy cabs?

You cant even get a bad review for a marshall mg on Harmony Central

Very true, lol. It's pretty hard for me to take reviews from harmony central serious.

Loud, uncolored sound. Seemed good for jazz-rock, but, didn't impress me, pro or con. Which, I guess, is good.

We're talking Bass cabs, right?

Reviews aside, I own one. (a 4x12 Stereo wired cab w/ felt covering and Celestions/Eminence combo speaker config)

I bought mine fromDave at Avatar over the phone about 2 years ago. He was a great guy to deal with. Very low key and flexible.

The cabinet was only $249 (his prices have gone up), and arrived in about 3 days.

The cabinet is built like a tank.... Really. I have played in Metal bands and Top40 acts throughout the 80s, and have owned Marshal 1960 cabs, Boogies, Fenders, you name it. The Avatar is built better than the Marshalls. (I actually broke a drill bit installing the casters....)

The sound is great... it has absolutely no rattling at any volume, and he will put any speakers in it you want, at VERY good prices.

I called Dave and asked for additional spacers for the metal grill, and he OVERNIGHT SATURDAY delivered them (via Fedex) for free....

You should at least look at his website for more info.
BTW-The HC reviews are spot on in this case... His stuff is Excellent, not just "very good"... I'd like to hear some actual reasons anyone would feel otherwise... (and "doesn't have a cool Marshall logo" doesn't count)
Neithe does "The speaker drivers are <whatever drivers>, as Avatar offers about 15 drivers, and it's YOUR choice. (Celestion Vintage 30's, etc...)

I've got a closed back 2x12 cabinet with v30s and I love it. It is built like a tank and it sounds good. I'd like to try different speakers in it just for experimentation, but I have zero complaints about the cabinet.

When I compare the Avatar with the Acme LowB2, there's a noticable difference in low end response in notes lower than D to B. In that range, the Avatar starts to 'woof' a bit. The Acme lives down there. In conparison to my Eden cab, the Avatar just sounds 'rougher'. But, both the Eden and the Acme cost nearly twice as much as the Avatar. I'd rate both the Eden and Acme as 'very good', I haven't heard an excellent cab since I heard an Acoustic 360 at 30ft. Once again, I'm talking bass.

Oh.....BASS................ ;)
I have no experience w/ bass cabs.... just the 4x12 slant guitar cabs.....
Bass is a different animal.....

I have fond memories of helping friends schlep their 360 Cabinets... Those and the Ampeg "refrigerators"... :D

I'll bet the Avatar beats the Acme in sensitivity, though!

I recently bought an Avatar SB12 (single neodymium 12" with tweeter) for my bass rig. I'm extremely pleased with it. Lots of sound, pretty neutral - which IS good, less than 40 lbs., for a good price.

2 each 2x12 Avatar cabs. One with dual V30's and another with one V30 and on G12H30. Number 3 cabinet to be ordered very soon...looking at putting a Tonker and a G12T 75.

Killer value and solid goods.

I have a legacy cab and though it is sufficient it isn't as clear and clean as I would like it to be. It does have four V30's but still... Do you think that an Avatar cab will be better even if it also has four V30's? Also I've been getting some humming from my legacy head at pretty average volumes.. any suggestions? SORRY FOR BEING SO NOOB... truly ashamed..
thank you to everyone who has helped already

I couldn't compare the two.... I have never played through a Legacy..... sorry...
Pretty sure Avatar has a 30 day return policy though.
