It also looks exactly like the stereo mic on cascademicrophones.com.

I think it might be the same as those others

Wow dude I just checked out the cascade site - tnx 4 the link! I've been researching ribbons for a few months and these look like a good place to start my ribbon collection. It's either the Fathead II pair or an Avant CR-14.

All I know is Avant one. :D Get it? Avant a new microphone? Hello? Is this thing on? :D

Sorry, too much Halloween candy today.

Cheers, Rez

Oops, the stereo mic is an FET design-ignore my previous post.

I have an Avant....

....CR14. It has a bit of a dark, brooding sound. I like it for violin and some special vox and wouldn't get rid of it but I wouldn't buy it for my first or only ribbon. That's just my experience with this mic though. It sucks a lot of gain but most ribbons do.

I have an Avant CR-14 as well. Not bad. Not great. I actually bought one of the Group Buy mics that looks just like it as well and we'll see how they do as a pair. Dark and soft I'd say. Not Beyer or AEA quality, but certainly usable. I've been using it on cabs with an API pre.

I have heard good things about their small diaphragm condensor...the CK-1. A few people over at www.taperssection.com use them as budget mics for recording concerts and have had great results. I would assume that stereo mic would be at the very least as good as those which are supposed to be great for the price. I was thinking of trying some of their dynamics, namely the kick and snare mic.
