I got this unit for $399 at GC last night. I have not tried it yet, but any users out there? How does the unit sound? Does it make a big difference (especially for bass)?
WTF? does GC have a credit card? cuz the sam ash cats NEVER wanna hit me with a deal with esoteric gear...they have a pure path channel strip sitting at closeout for like 3- 4 months! seeing ruperts sig on gear is like the first time seeing fake breasts and not knowing its fake
I use an Avalon AD2022, which I believe has the same DI circuitry as your U5, and it kicks ass as a bass DI. It's also good for a bunch of other DI applications. I use it with the Fishman Prefix Plus in my Taylor, and also with my wife's harp, using an old fashioned Barcus Berry transducer.-Richie
I was not really looking for this unit. But, it had been sitting in the box for 2 years. It is dated in 2001. I was having fun with the salesguy and said I wanted the U5 and was quoted $399 at one time. I do this when I am bored. The guy looked in the computer and came up with $421. I told him I was interested in it at $399. He did the "I have to talk to the manager" thing and gave it to me for $399. I really don't know if I will keep it. Mt studio is down because my new Allen & Heath mixer is on it's way. So, I asked here if the unit is good sounding. I guess if it makes the bass really awesome, I will keep it. If people get less serious about dealing with GC and have fun with the salespeople, they can get great prices. I do it all the time because I am prepared to walk away. When I buy, I buy and they know it.
