I have the opportunity to pick up this unit new for 1300.00.

Is this a good price?

I did a search on ebay but no units were listed so I don't know what type of resale they can bring.

Thanks for any input.

They come new for what, $2500? Assuming it's in good condition, that's a fine price.

If it's in good condition, that is a fair price. Perhaps not an earth-shaking bargain, but a fair price. It's $2000 at Musician's Friend. I can buy it new from Guitar Center for $1650, because I know people. I hope that puts you in the ballpark. BTW- if it's brand new with warrany, that's a *great* price.-Richie

The unit is new from a national music retailer.

Sound like I will be picking it up.

Wow. How did you manage that?!

A store manager owed me a favor so I looked at his rack of Pre Amps and it seemed to be the highest of the high end he had their.

That was the price he quoted me. Just wanted to be sure that it was a good deal.

Thanks for your replies.

Sounds like a great deal. But my dad always told me... never take the first offer. It never hurts to ask! What's the worst that could happen? He'll sell it to you for 1300 right? Why not ask him to come down. If he does, great... if not you got an awesome preamp for a great price anyway. Just a thought.

I think it would be rude to ask for lower than $1300, personally.

I agree- that's dealer cost, or less. Why don't you ask for his car, and to sleep with his daughter? He can only say no. It doesn't hurt to ask, right? Business relationships are not about getting the lowest price.-Richie

I'm sorry. I didn't realize it was new.
I thought it was a store demo but I noticed your wrote new. I just misunderstood when you said you saw it in the rack, I just assumed it was the store demo unit.

I should rephrase my comment to say, when buying something used, I would never accept the first offer. I guess if its new and he is offering you about 700 bucks below retail cost (give or take a few bucks), then it would sound rude. I apologize.
