I am running a Neumann 102 thru an Avalon 737 into the line in on an M-Audio Profire 610. The levels are terribly low. I have to crank the gain to +42 db with the output at 0 db (for softer spoken VO work). It is incredibly noisy/hissy. I know the line inputs on the Profire are at -12, so is this the cause? When I use the onboard preamps on the Profire (skipping the Avalon completely) the noise disappears. I know this may indicate an issue with the 737 (tubes?)...
I am more than happy to upgrade to a new interface (Audient id22, Apogee duet 2, RME babyface as I never need more than 2 inputs) but am I just going to run into the same problem with those interfaces? I would certainly like to use the Avalon!
Thanks in advance!
