I'd put money on a sample that was triggered to go off with the bass, its kind of like an evelope wah/whoosh type sound. You can emulate it with an evelope filter that "wahs" depending on how hard you hit the strings.

I think you're right. I was trying my (not bass) guitar wah pedal but it doesnt sound right. Is there a wah pedal for bass? I'm wondering if it even be replicated live.
Boss makes dedicated bass wahs. Electro Harmonix makes the BassBalls pedal, which is a wah + distortion. They also make the Q-tron and mini Q-tron (this one I have), which work great on bass because while most wah pedals use a bandpass filter (effectively destroying the most important range for the bassguitar), the Q tron can also use a low pass filter, which works wonders for bass.
EBS is about the holy grail of basspedals. The BassIQ is about the best bass wah on the market. The EMMA pedals are good too.
There's also the famour Mu-Tron, a famed vintage wah from wah back.
