Automation recording to midi clip not to automation lane?

Hello everyone, long time lurker first time poster here :)

I am using Cubase 5 and attempting to record some automation (midi CC sent to kontakt player). While the data is being sent correctly it is recording the automation data ontop of the midi clips themselves. I can't figure out why it isn't recording to the automation lane instead.

Checked the automation panel, searched all over the web and checked my preferences.

Anyone have any ideas/suggestions?

MIDI cc data is always recorded into the midi file itself. This is so you can import and export MIDI files with all the cc data intact.

That's fine, I just want the automation data not to cover up the midi event on the arranger. Instead I want it to appear in the automation lane. Just like if you draw in the automation lane (offline-automation) then nothing appears in the main midi lane.

Does that make sense?
