I've been using a Zoom R16 as an external audio controller with Cubase 5 and every time I go to record something it changes the sample rate from 44.1Khz to 96Khz?!? When i'm working on an old project that was originally recorded at it's default 44.1kHz sample rate, it wants to convert all the old old tracks into 96kHz first - and says it's irreversible after.

Is this a good thing? is it downgrading, upgrading or altering the sound of my recordings in any way?

96kHz generally means better quality but i have this same problem with my r24, it annoys me because i can't use the zoom's in built effects when its at this sample rate, i don't know how to change it though, i only got the thing last week :P

I think I can help with this problem as well, but I would like to put up screen shots so you know what I'm talking about. I'm not home at the moment. There is a way to tell cubase what sample rate you want to work in as long as your hardware doesn't disagree (is set to a different sample rate).

Project/project setup.../ try changing the sample rate to 44.1kHz
