Hi guys, i was just wondering if the Aureal Vortex 2 SQ2500 is a good card if i want to connect my midi controller to my computer to record stuff on N-track cause I have downloaded many sound fonts and I was wondering if this soundcard is able to use the soundfonts. I use to use SB live value but the card died on me.
How is it in comparison with my old SB live card for midi and stuff like that? THanks

I had this card for a while. It's similar to an SB Live, maybe slightly quieter. But it does not support SoundFonts and Aureal is long out of business. I would look for another SB Live or perhaps an Audigy for SoundFonts.

Say if I still got this Aureal sound card, is there a way of adding sounds to it like I would add sounds on my old Live using soundfonts? is there like another file format? Ive heard that the aureal can use soundfonts though, i might have heard wrong. Cansomeone clear that up for me? Thanks

Sorry it appears I gave you the wrong information. According to vortexofsound.com the Vortex2 does support SoundFonts, along with DLS 1 and ARL (Aureal native format) with the newest drivers. I had read a page by Creative that said only their products worked with SoundFonts, but apparently they are mistaken. If you are using WinXP you may have to double-check because the native MS drivers removed some features to ensure compatibility.

Thanks, im guessingthey will work with win2k? hopefully =O)
