Auralex Max Wall

I play drums but live in a townhouse. Currently I play with mutes on the heads ( Sound Off ) which really sucks. I'm thinking about buying the Auralex Max Wall system and adding some panels on top to make a psuedo-sound proof room. I don't need to be 100% sound proof - just low enough where I'm not bothering the neighbors. Anyone have experience with this system? Comments?

I am no expert but I am almost certain that this will not help your volume situation. The Auralex walls are probably more suited for taming reflections etc..."basically a wall" for places that you can't permanently hang their foam. In order to have noticable sound reduction you need LOTS of mass and the room needs to be completely sealed. Dig around the "studio building forum" and you will find more than enough info on this subject.

hes right... the max wall wont do anything for soundproofing... no foam will... to soundproof you need to use extremely dense materials... there is a product from auralex called Sheetblok which is used for soundproofing, but it is quite expensive... in the specs it claims to be "about 6dB more effective than a sheet of solid lead at stopping the transmission of sound." Anyway, hope I could help a little...

This is the best overall solution!
the stuff is soundproof with just one sheet Comparable to over eight sheets of drywall.
this stuff has some special threads or something that convert sound to heat then there is a metal sheet laminated between the qypsum to stop the heat.
THX certified
check out the specs @ www.quietrockonline.com and don't forget to mention supertech I'm gonna need more!!!
thanks for the info on the doors too.

rock on
.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,

you could use mattras's to stop the room from reveberating and inturn amping yor kit

Unfortunately this is a much more difficult problem than you're hoping. This post really belongs in the Construction forum. You can also check out www.johnlsayers.com.

The quietrock was $120.00 per sheet last time I checked and most experts are quite skeptical of it, not agreeing with the cost benefit vs. multiple layers of ordinary drywall.

Sometimes you have to step back and think intuitively about this stuff. Can you really imagine a piece of foam or an eggcrate in between your ear and a snare drum doing any good?
