Auditioning samples on OS X

Any recommendations on the fastest ways to audition samples?

I've tried Snapper, AudioFinder and Myriad; Snapper is certainly my favorite due to its rapidity and Finder incorporation but has a tendency to crash.

Alternatively, is there a way to get the Logic Pro X browser to reliably autoplay samples when clicked? The speaker icon towards the bottom of the browser constantly turns itself off; I'd like to quickly select a one-shot and trigger it repeatedly by hitting a key.

Is this doable or am I just a dreamer?

Thank you in advance!

I may be stupidly way off base here but, can you not do this with WMP?

Dave.

Yes, got that but everyone has a PC kicking about somewhere. Does not take Deep Thought to play a few .wavs!

Dave.

I don't; I agree, and I'm looking for recommendations on OS X software that can help my workflow!

Oh! Well you should get one, they are EVERSO handy! But to be serious. VLC Media Player has a mac version it seems. Download from the uber safe and clean ninite.com

Dave.

OP, I was going to suggest VLC player.
It's quick and lightweight. Set the playback option to 'play once' and it should do what you want.

Just fire your whole library into VLC first, rather than actually opening file by file.

Or...you know...just get a PC.

I'd expect any DAW to have a sample import audition feature, all the same. You sure you haven't just missed it?

I recall now, a few years ago son asked me to get WMP working (it had been playing sill buggers after a format and re-install of XP) because he needed something to "click and open" audio files.

We had Samplitude SE8, AA 1.5 and a Cubase but none of these would quite do that, thought of course you could just drop a file onto the shortcut.

I am surprised macs do not have an equivalent to WMP, iTunes?

Dave.

I like foobar2000, it's very handy software, free and opensource.

Thanks for the replies y'all. There's definitely a multitude of software that can play audio, but I was looking for something that was incorporated into the Finder (like clicking a file in File Explorer and having it play instantly). I found what I wanted with Path Finder 7!
