Can I run an Audiophile 2496 on a Celerion 500 with 64mg of RAM?

What O/S are you trying to run with 64MB?

The more important question: Given RAM prices, why are you using anything less than 256 MB?

During the time of the Celeron 500, 64MB was quite standard. Doc is right though, you can pop up to 256MB of crucial for $50.

The audiophile itself doesn't have high requirements....it really depends on what you're going to do with it.

I've worked on 24 track 24bit/44khz projects with several effects on my old Celeron 500. It didn't run great, but it ran well enough to be usable (Windows 2000, 164MB RAM at the time). Of course every machine is different, and your mileage is sure to vary.

What do you want to do exactly?

Slackmaster 2000

yes, you can use the Audiophile with a 500mhz Celeron...i do.....as Doc and Slack have hinted at, you could probably use more Ram......you wont be able to get a lot of realtime effects going, but you should get by....the number of tracks youll get may depend on the speed/performance of your hard drive.......

Operating System is Windows 98.

I have a VS 840GX for my main recording and will be using it only to tranfer digitally to my PC edit and burn to CD. I will not be using lots of effects, only minimal effects such as reverb etc. What do you think minimal ram I should use?

Benny, you may squeak by with 64MB.....128 would be more comfortable......

Okay thanks Gidge.

I'll just put it in and try it out, and add some more RAM anyway, it won't hurt.
