I am planning on getting either an Audiophile or a Delta 1010LT for my new system. I'm mainly interested in recording vocals over instrumentals, but I might get into production later which may require a keyboard, etc.

Which one do you guys think is more bang for the buck?

Lastly, does anyone know if the micpre's that come with the 1010 are any good?

Thanks in advance!

It appears as though there are several folks on this site that have a lot of knowledge about the delta series cards.
Be patient and Im sure someone will respond

Im trying to find out myself if the 1010lt has the same converters as the 1010 and if it has the famous DMP2 circuitry preamps.....if it does i will have an Audiophile and DMP2 preamp for sale....

the 1010lt is as bang for the buck as it gets......the inputs being unbalanced may be an issue for some, but im ok with that....

but to help you settle your question before i recieve this information, i have yet to hear a bad converter on any Delta card, even their older ones, and ive yet to hear a bad preamp from them, all the way back to the Audio Buddy....i think the 1010lt is a VERY SAFE buy......

Gidge, I don't know if this helps or not . . .

but the LT is just a PCI card. No breakout box. All A/D conversion, as well as the preamplification, takes place on the card. That doesn't leave much room for a lot of preamp.

Now this is just a guess, but knowing the marketing people at M-audio, if their preamps were roughly the same as the dmp-2, then they would have made note of this and advertised the hell out of it like they do with the omni, for instance.

When going from a balanced output to an unbalanced input, just use short chords (noise and hum accumulates along the way when using longer chords). Also use a converter with an "impedence-matching transformer" and you're set.

Man, I feel smart for once.

this place has the 1010lt for $329...id get a more reputable place to match it.....

so Audiophile vs 1010lt

1010lt for $170 more gives you everything the Audiophile has plus 2 preamps (though we dont know the quality) and 6 additional inputs, workclock i/o,supposedly zero latency monitoring

I've never been happier with a single gear purchase. I'm selling the VS-880 on ebay. I've gotten it to work like a charm, and I can never get anything to work! Just buy it.

did you miss the reunion tour of Ratt,Poison,LA Guns and Great White?.....

ok, how did that happen....

this post was supposed to say that i recieved an email back from M-Audio the the preamps in the 1010lt ARE based on DMP2 technology.....

Are they? And did you really receive an email?

You're confusing me, Gidge. First you are asking no one in particular if they missed out on the chance to see a star-studden lineup of early-90's glam-metal gods . . .

. . . and now you're saying you either have or haven't gotten word on the LT converters. Have you been taking those pain killers again? :)

dont ask me how but my posts to this thread and the one in the link got crossed...pain killers?...yes thank you, the red ones pleeze.....

actually, yes Greg St.Peter emailed me back that the preamps do use the DMP2 technology....i also asked what converters they used and his reply was "AKM's"...not very specific so i dont know if its the better AKM's used in the 1010 or one of the ones used in the Audiophile or the one used in the Delta 44/66......

drugs are bad...just say no......

How the hell could they get a half rack space of preamp circuitry onto a PCI card with converters and other stuff? And if they did, how could they get it sound good?

I wouldn't trust a PC power supply to be terribly clean through a PCI slot, let alone provide reliable 48V phantom power.

If anybody gets this card, you should look for an SSM 2017 chip (or was it 2015?), which is the main IC used in the DMP2.

good point.

That's exactly what I was afraid of.

My guess is that "based on the same technology" is a very loose explanation. :)

It's still a bargain whether or not the pres are any good (and you can bypass them if you prefer).

Thanks to everyone for their help... I purchased the Delta 1010-LT today. It should be arriving in the mail shortly. :)

Peace.
