Can anyone currently using the audiophile 2496 (or any card of the delta series for that matter) kindly describe their computer set up and how well it works?

I need to know everything right down to MoBo and Chassis...

Thanks you very much...

There's a slew of computers that will work fine with it. I use an Abit BP6 motherboard with dual 366Mhz Celerons and it works fine. I did have to do some PCI card rearranging to get it to work though (I'm using all my PCI slots).

No compatibility issues with the AP2496 that I'm aware of. For more info on building a DAW see the "Roll your Own" article at www.prorec.com.

If you don't want to deal with compatability headaches and random pops/clicks, stay away from AMD CPU's and VIA chipsets.

I use my Audiophile with a PII-400 on an Intel 440BX motherboard - anchient, but no problems at all. I plan to upgrade in the near future to a P4-1.8Ghz with an Intel motherboard that uses the i845 chipset.

Overall system compatability and a quieter/cooler running machine are more important than the slightly increased performance the AMD chips give you IMHO. What it all boils down to is that most PIII systems have more than enough power for today's DAW software and will be all you'll need for quite some time...

Wow, first i was with intel, then with amd, then with intel, then with amd..
I took your guys' advice and just emailed midiman, they said intel works great.. plus the people at my computer vendor recommended intel for multimedia... if I got the most bitchin  celeron, do you think I would be fine interms of running speed?
I appreciate your help very very much!

Bitchin Celeron, heh. The last time Celerons were "bitchin" was back in the heyday of dual overclocked 366Mhz Celerons, which is what I'm still running today. Regardless, as long as you have an ample amount of RAM and a reasonably fast hard drive, you should be fine for doing audio work. With my dual 366Mhz Celerons and 384MB of RAM I can usually get around 20 or so tracks with four effects to run smoothly (using Vegas).

Actually the Audiophile works fine with a few of the VIA chipsets, I have spoken to people that are running it, plus I have spoken to M Audio and they confirm it.

It definitely does depend on which VIA chipset though. the KT133a definitely works.

Why's everybody always gotta be bustin' on AMD??? :(

Oops... you forgot to mention the fact that an AMD processor costs less than half of a (almost) comparable Intel CPU.

Back in VIA's and AMD's baby days you had to deal with some of what you're talking aboot.. but not any more. (unless you like buying outdated VIA and AMD parts) :p

Stupid question. How do you determine your motherboard/chip set?

You can find all that info under your Device Manager->System Devices.

Asus A7N266-C (nvidia chipset)
Athlon XP1700+
Ati Radeon 7500
Delta 66
80 Gb Barracuda IV

Very stable, no problems
