Newbie question -

I've recorded in the past with a crappy SBLive setup, and I'm ready to move up in the world with an Audiophile 2496. However, the Audiophile has RCA inputs, and I am not sure how to setup my system for them....

I've got a nice Rode NT1 mic that I run through a little mixer that includes my phantom power... But I don't know how to go from the mixer into the soundcard.

Do I use RCA outputs from the mixer to input into the soundcard? If so, do I use both RCA outputs to input into the two soundcard RCA inputs, or do I get an adapter to merge them into ONE RCA input into the soundcard?

Hope this isn't too confusing - any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!

I'm not familiar with the 2496 but I saw what you were talking about on M-Audio's web site. Here's what I would do:

Pan the channel you have the mic connected hard to one side. say the left.
Connect the left out of the RCA from the mixer to one RCA input of the 2496.

Since you're connecting a mono source (using one mic only), no need to use a pair of RCAs. The two RCAs on the 2496 are for stereo sources.

Thanks!

Ok, now I have another question - once I have recorded the mic, how do I mix it into stereo? (In the past, everything I've recorded from my SB card was automatically "stereo")

or use the direct outs on your mixer. You didnt mention what mixer it was, but with most you will benefit from the gain but with less circuity (which means less noise when dealing with most HR type mixers)
I go from the direct out on my 1202vlzpro to my audiohphile, and then i have Cool edit turn it into stereo.

direct out????

You go from the direct out? Isn't that xlr? Wouldn't it make more sense to run your tape out to the audiophile and then run ur tape in back in since that way u can stay rca to rca without adapters?

No direct out is 1/4, its the same connection as the inserts btu with a TS plug. Tape out? never heard of going to that to the card, like i said the more crap you put between the pre and the card the more noise

hmm still confused?

well i guess we have different 1202's

so do you use a 1/4" to rca cable to hook up to the 24/96?

i go from the main outs of my studio 32 (1/4" outs) to the rca ins of my 2496, using cords from radioshack that are rca on one side and 1/4" on the other. then depending on what program you're using to record w/ i imagine you could assign the mic source in stereo to whatever 2 tracks you prefer.
