I have been looking for a replacement for my Audigy 2 Platinum and it seems as though the Audiophile 2496 is a popular card. How many inputs does it have? I only see a pair of RCAs on that little dongle, I thought it was supposed to have a lot more inputs. Can anyone clear this up.

yes the only inputs are the 2 RCA's and a s/pdif......if you use the s/pdif inputs you can record 4 simultaneous tracks, otherwise 2 is the max......

And for only another $49 you can get the Delta 44 with 4 ins and 4 outs

but for that extra $49 you lose MIDI connectivity

Midi schmidi.

You also lose s/pdif which next appears in the delta 66

The audiophile is a great card... had to throw that in there. :D

ok so I guess i should just dig up this thread.

I got my audiophile hooked up and stuff...and this is just preliminary but i noticed that all the sound I record from my guitar amp (using the line-out mono jack on the back), the volume is WAY high on the computer...the peaks max out and i get distortion. Turning the amp almost all the way down gets the sound too quiet to decipher. I think what I need is a pre-amp..cuz i don't have one. Am I right? What should I be looking at?

Try micing your amp instead or adjusting levels thru the m-audio control panel.

micing my amp sucks hardcore...that's why i bought the soundcard. The audio levels on the mixer aren't seeming to do anything at all. I was reading a convo earlier on these boards saying that you'd want to get a preamp to control the volume level of inputs and outputs if you got this audiophile card..cuz it doesn't have one built in.

Im not sure what kind of level is coming from that line out on your cabinet. You should have control of levels in the panel. You may not have things set up properly. Monitor mixer checked ?
Its been awhile since I had that card.
Do you use a guitar proccessor ?

no i don't have a guitar processor...just bought that card in hopes of getting better quality than micing the amp. I just need that distortion gone...

I'm not sure about the monitor mixer. As far as i can see the only control i have over the levels on the card are on the M-Audio Delta Control Panel, and they aren't affecting the peaks at all. I'm not really sure if i have this set up the right way, but how could it be wrong ya know? It's just from the amp to the card...do I need another device of some sort to turn the level from the cabinet down? Sorry to re-ask that question with every post lol

Your monitor mixer only controls the levels you hear at monitoring or playback, NOT the recording levels. You can see the recording levels, butcha can't control 'em.

Go to the Hardware Settings on your M Audio Control Panel and change the variable signal levels. There are 3 options +4db, consumer & -10db. Select the ones that give you the most appropriate levels.

Normally you would control the recording level by adjusting the volume on your amp, or the gain on your preamp. What are you using for recording software? You should be able to do some recording level adjustment in that

Bulls, unless you have a different version of the Delta control panel than I have, there is no "+4" option. It's either "-10" or "consumer". More importantly, this setting only affects the output level, not the input. (The input is fixed at the "consumer" level.)

True.
Only the 44, 66, 1010LT and 1010 go up to +4. The audiophile and 410 go up to "consumer" (-4)

i'm using Acid pro 4.0.Yeah i don't have a +4...but I switched over to the -10 and lowered the volume on the amp and it seemed to do better with the clean stuff....now when i switch over to distortion and turn the gain up the problem rears its ugly head. Basically ANY gain = bad distortion on the recording.

Something like THIS could help. A bit cheaper than a preamp, and shouldn't mess with your sound too much.

Personally, I use a J-station to do all my guitar work since I really don't have the greatest guitar amp. S/PDIF straight out from the J-station to my Audiophile and I'm set. The J-station can be had for about 99$ at most places.

Since the Audiophile has 2 ins does that mean you can record two instruments at once, say a guitar and a voice?

And if so, does that mean you can record them on separate tracks at once or on the same track?

I've been recording off of the onboard soundcard and am looking to step up. The M-Audio Audiophile card seems to fit the bill.
