Ok, I will start by letting you know I am a newbie as far as recording... Hope that didn't scare to many people off

I have a g4 running 10.3, audiophile 2496 and I am trying to conquer a very simple task (I thought) to start with. I have a signal going into the analog ins and I want to record it. I have the patchbay setup so I can hear the signal through my monitors via the soundcard so I thought that meant all was well. When I open up my recording program (in this instance spin doctor 2), and record it does so but all I end up with is a loud constant static noise. I read the f*cking manual, no help.

Any ideas/ suggestions from those more educated on such things? Rookie mistake?

is it tv sound type static or the volume level too high static? (if the volume level is too high its called "Clipping")

if its volume then you're overpowering the input signal on the card...go into your delta control panel and look at the levels that the soundcard is picking up. modify volume from there

Nope not clipping

All levels look good in the mixer... no reds at all... the whole recording is one long loud

SHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

no audible sounds other than the hiss so TV sounding static. This is driving me mad. I've tried everything I can think of twice..

ok well what are you connecting to the soundcard? can the soundcard playback mp3s or cds with no problem?

What recording s/w are you using?

Have you updated it to record from the audiophile?

What drivers are you using?

Are there any other soundcards present and have you disabled them?

distortedrumble: I am connecting a Pioneer DJM600 mixer to the soundcard from the master out on the mixer. Yes I can hear mp3s and cds through the soundcard, and it sounds fine. I can even hear the input just fine through the soundcard, but it's the recording that is bad.

Bulls Hit: right now I am trying to use spin doctor 2 it comes bundled with toast, it's specifically for digitizing vinyl which is what I am trying to do. Did I ever mention I am on a g4 running 10.3? When you setup a new recording in spin doc you setup the prefrences INPUT DEVICE>Analog 1/2 Delta-AP, I've also tried Multichannel Delta-AP but when I do that one it says no compatible formats found. RECORDING QUALITY>44100 Hz, 24 bits, 2 (stereo). As for the drivers I just updated them about a week ago, 1.1.6, and I do see the audiophile in the s/w with multiple options. As far as any other soundcards, no. This is the only pci device in the computer. I went to system prefrences>sound>output is on multichannel delta ap and input is on multichannel delta ap. I've tried changing the input to analog 1/2 delta-ap and that made no difference...

Any more questions/ideas? I really appreciate your prodding, maybe we can uncover the problem.

Just a shot in the dark, I know it shouldn't make any difference, but have you tried setting Recording quality to 44.1 & 16bit?

No..

I haven't tried changing the recording quality, but will do so when I get home... I also emailed m-audio. Why can't companies just give you a phone number to call? I hate that. I will let you know if that makes any difference. Keep the suggestions coming. Is there something I'm missing?

Downloaded Sound Studio 2.0 it has a 14 day trial with all features I will try that when I get home tonight...

That's a good idea though, I will post here tomorrow and let you know how it goes. Wish me luck. This is just so frustrating because it seems so easy and won't work

 Brooke

thats life....recording has its own seperate section

Well that cubase is trying to install in classic, which I don't want... takes forever to switch between classic and 10. Sound Studio doesn't want to record either...I can open up an aif and edit that within SS but when I try to record with that I just get the equivalent of an hourglass and it never goes away. I have to force the app to quit to get anywhere. This is insane! I'm going to see if I can't get someone to come over and help me... I have to get something recorded today, looks like I'm going to have to put it onto minidisc. F*ck.

*sigh*

:D Got it working... Had to install another program like you said. Not sure why the first two don't work, but at this point fuck it. I ended up downloading Bias Peak 4, so easy worked the first time. Only problem is after 14 days, I'm supposed to cough up $499 for the bad boy. Ouch! That would definitely leave a mark... so I'm looking for a creative solution to that problem now. Any suggestions? Direct them at my email thefunkykind@hotmail.com. Thank you for the help/moral support. I appreciate it. O the joy when the file I saved as pleasegod.aif actually PLAYED BACK.

you rock.
