hello peeps, i just got an audiophile 2496 at a bargain price but have some probs with it.

first i install it (on a machine running win xp home sp2) using the cd that comes with it. it works fine like this but its supposed to work better with the latest drivers. then i downlaod the latest drivers from the maudio website, which is a self installing utility. however after the new drivers are installed, when i want to open the mixer and patchbay screen i get an error.

the driver i tried installing is the may 4, 2005 one. has anyone else tried installing it? please let me know of your experiences.

second, the midi in doesnt seem to work. ive tried using my midi keyboard with some soft synths and it doest play any sounds. there doesnt seem to be any option screen for midi connections.

any suggestions/experiences are welcome. thanks!

The newer drivers only uninstall when first run (if an earlier driver exists, which in your case it did) - you have to run it again to install the files, restart the machine and let the "New Hardware Found" wizard install the cards drivers automatically. Another restart of the machine is then advisable.

What sort of software synth were you trying to play? - The problem here is probably that you don't have things setup right in this software. There is nothing in the cards Delta control panel that affects the cards midi ports.

your advice on the drivers seemed to do it, thanks!

the software synth i'm trying to play is fm7, tho even with others theres no response.

Jim, do you have an audiophile? if so how do you hook it up to your mixer? thats another problem i've been having - the sound levels from the outputs are too low.

There are circumstances where a midi port fails to install, although the new installer is supposed to take care of it. Does the Audiophile Midi Out appear as an option for midi playback in Windows Control Panel/Sounds controls?

If it's a standalone softsynth (a complete program as opposed to a VST plugin), you will have to select the correct midi input in its options. It may be necessary to set your keyboard to transmit on a particular midi channel. Ch 1 is the default for most synths.

A possible silly mistake is to not push the midi plugs in far enough, or to connect the wrong ports. Midi Out from the keyboard goes to the soundcards Midi In! Some keyboards are only powered when connected to USB. You may have to find an AC power adapter if not using USB.

I did use an Audiophile2496 connected to a Soundcraft Spirit FX8 mixers Stereo return channel. The levels were fine even though the mixer has "pro" balanced +4dBu connections and the Audiophile is unbalanced "consumer" level. There is a switch in the cards control panel for the output level selection to suit.
