I recently installed a AP 2496 soundcard in my computer, but I can't get it running correctly. I removed my old soundcard and installed the AP 2496 and downloaded the newest drivers, but still I can't get no playback. When I try to play back an audio file I get the following message: "Unable to open necessary device(s) for playback. It may be in use or unavailable.

I've got a Dell computer, Pentium 4, 2.4 Ghz, 512 ram and running windows XP.

Thanks in advance.

Have you selected the audiophile as the default card for playack and recording?, goto the control panel and check your audio settings.

It's not possible to select a soundcard in the control panel, the roll down menu is deactivated, leaving me no options in that regard. In the device manager there is an element called Microsoft WINMM WDM AUDIO compatibility-driver which is not working properly (i.e marked with a yellow exclamation mark). Maybe this is conflicting with the AP 2496 or something?

Did you uninstall the drivers for your old soundcard before you removed it from the slot?

That is the problem, trouble shoot from the device manager, If that does not work disable in all hardware devices and reboot.

Yeah, I found out too. I managed to remove the conflicting driver now (for some reason I haven't been able to do that before), and now the AP works just fine. Thanks for helping out.
