Audiophile 2496 no MIDI playback

I cannot playback MIDI files after uninstalling my SB Live card and installing an Audiophile 2496 card. What software do I need to install from the included bundle in order to playback MIDI files? TIA

Well, that's an easy answer here... No software... The audiophile 2496 has no onboard synthesizer. It can send and receive MIDI-commands, but has no hardware to playback a sample on receiving a midi command.

The soundblaster you had before had a rombased synth on it that allowed it to playback midi-files. The audiophile hasn't got that...
 
Are there any freeware Software Synth around? $80 is too much for me to pay for the very good Yamaha Soft Synth. Perhaps there is something cheaper but equally as good as Yamaha's? Thanks.

Which one should I go for? There are so many and I have downloaded that that does not serve the purpose :(
