Audiophile 2496, Low level output.

Hi!

Have just bought myself the Audiophile soundcard 2496 and am trying to get it all going and ready.

My PC is an Amd Athlon 1.6 Ghz, 1GB Ram. Also am using a Behringer mixer UB1002, RCA cables, SE electronics condenser mic, and a set of K55 headphones. Operating system is Windows XP.

So far, have installed the soundcard and drivers and my first impression is that the do no seem too reliable, as I have had some errors already!! Pc closing down, and some blue screens of death!! Scanned the PC for viruses and no viruses either!! was working fine until I installed the soundcard! Managed to get around this downloading drivers from m-audio web page and also reinstalling the drivers, which came with the soundcard, which do not seem to be supported by windows XP, will this be a problem??

Anyway, have linked everything up together, mixer main out and control room to soundcard. Am hearing everything through the mixer on the AKg K55 headphones.

First problem I found was that the volume level was far to low! All volumes are set to maximum, headphone volume on mixer set to max, Control Audio panel all set to maximum, and the windows media player through which I am playing music also set to max, and even though the output I hear through my headphones is far far to low. Does anybody have any idea why this could be??

Also I find that the sound quality isn't that amazing, seems to have to much bass and the sound doesn't seem to sound that clear, if you add the low volume I have, it doesn't seem that well! I have upgraded from a SoundBlaster live, and the amount of volume I used to have on the SoundBlaster was very high in comparison. And much clearer, I think it is obvious that I must be doing something incorrect!! But what it is I do not know!!

Could anybody shine some light?? Are amplifiers necessary?

Try running the mixer "FX Send" to the soundcard "Input" and the soundcard "Outputs" into one of the stereo channels [3/4 or 5/6]. This is how I run my Audiophile and UB802 mixer and it works perfectly.

I have posted the same problem and question this morning. I am stumped why I cannot get volume out of control panel. Only the left channel is working for me, and I cannot turn up the volume. I think my driver is bad and I cannot seem to be able to download a working driver from m-audio. What ASIO drivers are you using?

First of all thanks for the replies, as I did what you suggested Ocnor, and it did work! To my delight! so very pleased with that.! Many thanks!

Also jazzione, as regard to the drivers I used, this is what I did, first of all I installed the drivers, which came with the card. It all was working fine for some time, apart from the volume prob, which is now sorted. But then the system started closing down for some reason! and then the blue screen of death! yes!! "Please disable any new hardware recently installed and reboot your system bla bla, if needed reboot in safe mode and all that,.."

I managed to make my way to the www.m-audio.com and search for updated drivers. I downloaded from this page, http://www.m-audio.com/index.php?do=support.drivers ,the release from the 15 June 2004. After installing this and restarting the PC, I was also asked to reinstall drivers for the card again! Don't ask me why! So I went ahead and reinstalled drivers which came with the card, after also I tried installing the update again, but the system confirmed that the update was already installed.

That's what I did, and to be honest don't ask me the reason, why this worked, as I am still quite unsure!! Also, I do hope it stays working fine, and doesn't crash after a while again!!

Anyway, at the mo, everything seems to be working fine. I have noticed that the left channel has slightly, only slightly!less volume level than the right channel, but I solve this from the Delta Control Panel, lowering the right channel, or from the mixer with the balance.

It was as you stated a hardware setup problem. And Polamares I was finally able to get a solid driver as you stated. Thanks. Im off to recording, alas!
