Audiophile 2496 and hardware gear...

Hey, I have a hardware effects unit that I want to use with my pc recording setup. Would I have to use the effect during tracking (as a channel insert on my Mackie 1202 mixer), or is there a way to route just one track to an output of the audiophile 2496 (from Sonar)??? Im sorry if this is a dumb question, but those "virtual" outputs the card supposedly has got me all confused... Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
 
I am stuck in the same way for the time being. I have managed to get the output of the 24/96 into my stereo compresser - out - and back into the 24/96 BUT... YOU DON'T HAVE ENOUGH OUTS TO HEAR THE BLOODY THING...whoops! unless you have a digital option then you can use the spdif out.

I'm just gonna get another 24/96 and have them both plugged into the same system (this can be done according to the website!)
