audiobuddy sounds like crap...

hi, i just got an audiobuddy (used) and something is amiss. before i had it i was using the mic-in pre on my soundcard -- my recordings sounded OK. now with the audiobuddy everything sounds like crap and the signal is incredibly weak.

dynamic mic-->input 1-->gain at 10, phantom off-->
output 1-->1/4 to 1/8 converter-->line in on SC...

the line-in level under volume control on the computer is at full. i'm playing an acoustic guitar approximately 6 inches from the mic. i'm using cool edit, which is recording in mono. when i play it back (boosting the volume a little more) it is very quiet and muffled.

things seemed to be OK before I added the audiobuddy.

any suggestions/ideas?

if you haven't already, first make sure in the "Recording" section of windows volume controls that the Line In is selected as your recording source.

what kind of mic are you using? you'll probably want to go into the XLR on the back of the unit, not the high-impedance 1/4" input on the front.

i would probably plug the damn thing into a guitar/bass/keyboard amp - preferably solid state - and goof with it to see if it works or not.

the computer and software hassle clouds the issue i think.

ahhh... of course. the mic i have (dynamic lo z) came with an xlr to 1/4 cord, so i have been plugging it into the front 1/4 in jack. i should probably go get an xlr to xlr cord.

if it still sounds like crap, expect to hear from me.
