Hey everyone, I've been searching all over the internet for a solution to this and haven't found anything that helps. Hopefully someone here can help me.

I have a MacBook Pro 10.6.7, Logic Studio 9, and a Presonus Audiobox USB I just got. There was nothing to install because with Mac's it is universal, so according to the manual I should be able to plug it in and start recording. However, there is no playback at all and I can't hear anything, both through headphones and the laptop's speakers, when I press record or play. When I unplug the USB, I can hear it.

I've already changed the input and output devices under the audio preferences. So I don't understand the problem. Any help on this is greatly appreciated. I'm so frustrated and I just want to start recording...

You shouldn't hear anything through the laptop's speakers. They aren't wired up to the audio interface. You should only get output through the outputs on the interface itself.

Be aware that many audio interfaces have multiple outputs, e.g. one for headphones and one for line outputs. Be sure your tracks/busses in Logic are set to output to the correct output or you won't hear anything.

You should only get output through the outputs on the interface itself.

What does that mean though? Where would the audio play back for me to hear? I can't even hear the metronome when i try to record.

The headphone jack on the box and/or the line outputs on the box, as opposed to the headphone jack on the laptop.

Well now I just feel silly... Ok so that's fixed but now there's a pretty noticeable hissing noise especially when I turn it up to pick up the mic more. Is this the interface's problem or could it be the headphones, mic cord, or something else? I've heard about these hissing problems and it sounds like it's usually because of the interface...

It could be environmental noise from computer fans, etc.

What type of mic are you using ?
Dynamic mics have less output and require the preamp to be turned up to get a usable signal and this can lead to noise from the preamp.
Condenser mics are more sensitive, and are good at picking up room noise.

It's usually a combination of factors—a noisy preamp circuit in the interface coupled with a microphone whose output level is too low, coupled with having it too far from the instrument it is pointed at. What kind of mic are you using, and what are you recording with it?

I'm using a Shure PG-42 Condenser mic that I plan on using for pretty much everything. Guitar, bass, vocals, percussion. Besides that mic I have an Audix I-5 Dynamic mic.

Also I'm not sure if this makes a difference, but I have a Macbook Pro with the unibody design (all one piece of aluminum). I've heard that the USB ports on these laptops are not as powerful as others, and I've heard that a USB hub can help with this. Though I don't know if that has anything to do with the hissing.

Thanks again for your replies.

I have also have a Macbook Pro, Logic Studio 9, and PreSonus Audiobox and have been having the same problem! Every time I try to record, nothing happens. I want to know what I can do to fix this! Please help.

Having the same problem as the user above. Any suggestions? Thanks!
