I own a digital reference dr-cx1 mic, I went to guitar center about 3 months ago, and bought it, thinking it was the 2020 because they look the same, it has audio technica in the very corner of the box, but says digital reference on the mic, Im just curious as to what the difference between the two mics are, the look exactly the same, and cost the same

Same Deal

Yeah a few years back I had the same experience. In fact, the salesman at GC just told me it was an Audio Technica, and it wasn't until a few years later that I was thinking about the "digital reference" label and researched it. From what I've seen, they're identical.

From my understanding, Audio technica owns digital reference much like fender = squire and Gibson = Epiphone. Well they are not equal to but you understand!

Well isnt the 2020 cheap enough...why do you need a cheaper mic.

If you really are shopping this price range just get an sm57

probably because the SM57 is a dynamic mic and the other two that are being discussed are condenser reference mics.
