FYI:

Got one today and am sending it back tomorrow.

Very poor quality sound -- boomy, tinny, not what I expected.

Maybe AT's higher priced mics are better. Don't know.

AKG mic I have used for a long time is five times clearer than the 3060.

I'll do two copies when I burn Bear's copy. Nice to have a cult following.

From another post, I was enlighted about "Tube" mics. Tube mics come with a tube [which I knew] and they offer coloration of input.

Well, if I'm doing a vocalist, I sure don't want to color the talent's voice.

I have a "Pure Through" switch on my studio/system amp that lets the input play without any coloration from the integrated amp -- lovely.

Maybe for a staged number, live, the coloration might work for some talent. If the talent had a bad voice, the "coloration from a tube mic would only create a bigger problem."

I'm sure Audio Technica makes some decent mics; however, the 3060 does not give me what I like to get. That's why we have more than one kind of soft drink.

Well, AT sure makes decent mikes...the normal condensors like the 4033 and the 4050 are used in our studio everyday...even for lead vocal....

My experience with tubemics:
-got a pair of groovetubes model1 (favourite of van halen) but it sucks for anything else than OH and acoustic guitars....but it rocks on them
-worked very intens with the solidtube....sounds really nice but has some sort of loudness sound which cannot be taken away...a true popmusic mike
-got 4 TLaudio tube preamps....nice...but had 8 and sold four because under normal situations I could barely hear the differents with the main console preamps...

So my conclusion: tube are great for some circumstances....it all depends on the source, the mike itselfs and the purpose of the recording.

Thanks for the information; I should have researched the "tube in the mic" more before I got the 3060.

It doesn't suit my needs but I could see where it might work for other types of recording.

By the way, have you ever used the AKG4000? It's not advertised very much but I have read a couple of good reports on it.
