Audio Spilling Spill compander

Your standard DBX tape noise reduction system is a compander. The compander compresses in recording and expands on playback.

Actually, don't feel bad - I have only seen the term used in the telephony industry.

I never thought of it that way, but I guess you're right.
 
Yes, dbx noise reduction units are compressor/expanders...companders. MXR brought out their little box in the mid 70's for this purpose and it was actually called an MXR Compander (I still have 2 of those little boxes). It was the same as dbx type II units without some of the high frequency emphasis filters that dbx used on their type I boxes.


Audio spill....that's a good one Walters. Will probably result in this thread lasting a week or two.

Also very common in wireless mics.
 
what else besides a Compander with give me audio spill?

reverb audio spill?

what other gear will do this?
