Hi guys,
I was wondering if you could make some recommendations for audio spectrum analyzers I could use with my Korg D1600. I realize that you shouldn't "record with your eyes" and that if it sounds good it is good and all that... I guess my purpose for wanting to buy a spectrum analyzer is so that I can become more familiar with what certain frequencies sound like (I hope this would speed up my learning process), and therefore, become more efficient when adjusting eq during mixdown. Any hints, suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I have a Behringer Ultra Curve DEQ 2496.It seems to work well but, I haven't used anything else to compare against. It also has parametric and graphic eqs, compression, limiter, expander and multiband compression plus some other stuff. It was $300.

I'll 2nd the DEQ2496 for it's 1/6 octave spectrum analyzer.

If you decide to monitor the audio inside a PC then you have some other choices that will go 'full-resolution' up to 8192 FFT points. That's well over 1/60 octave and should suit most anything you need it for.

I put a list of them over on this forum that I look in on from time to time - mostly lurking:

If I had to pick one RTA spectrum analyzer I'd go with Ozone3 I guess because of its' decay times, peak hold, averaging, overlays, and resolution - up to 8192 points.

I like lookin at spectrums of final mixes and using them to influence my EQ balancing decisions along with listening - of course ! :)
