I've been trying the ntrack demo but im not too happy with it (crashing and asio driver stuff)...also those darn meters always go full screen on me!
Does it even do MIDI?

What I am looking for is recommendations for something that will allow me to record mic tracks like ntrack and also draw or play midi tracks. like the old cubase vst program.

What are my affordable option under $500? And are these any good? I would like to use the best driver possible which I'm assuming are the asio? Is this correct?

I have tried demos for Kristal, LIVE, Ntrack Next please!

for 500 or less, i would say that (IN MY OWN OPIONION) that your two best otpions would either be Sonar 3 or Cubase SX 2.0. My vote is for sonar (cause thats just what i use) but Cubase is pretty cool too. Adobe audition is pretty cool but cannot do midi really. A nice program to have to edit .wavs though. I would get sonar 3 and cool edit (old version of auditon).

rui , it could be a system issue. but note ntrack is more audio than midi orientated imho. i would try powertracks that i use from pgmusic.com .
the midi features are extensive and you can do 48 digital audio tracks if your system is up to it at 24 bit if you want. if the demo fails on your system it
could mean you need to check if your sound card drivers are the problem.
what sound card ya got ?

There is no real right answer for you in some regards, just try more demos until you find something that works best with your editing style. I use Acid Pro 4, and I know there is a download on Sony's website. It does incorporate Midi, midi editing, stereo single track recording, real time midi recording, & vst instruments. But definately check out Sonar too.
