audio/midi out of sync

hey-

i am using cwpa9 and have no complaints as far as recording audio goes (for which i use a dsp24). however, i cannot get the midi to line up with my audio. i don't have any external midi synth, and i just use the microsoft synth as the port.

one strange thing is that if i use the pc speaker as the metronome, it is in sync with my audio. but if i use midi notes as the metronome, it is off.

is there anything i can do to change this in my computer? or if not is there any cheap solution such as a keyboard or another midi sound card?

any help would be greatly appreciated.
 
Since you are using Microsofts MIDI-softsynth, there's a delay between when the note is played, and when it's heard. This delay is called latency, and if you're using PA9 and Microsofts Softsynth, there's nothing you can do about that, expect get an external MIDI-device or an audiocard with an onboard synth (such as the SB Live! or Audigy).

that's kind of what i figured, thanks for the suggestions. do you know of any cheap but doable external devices?
 
If you are using a SB Live! or Audigy, you can use soundfonts... ;)
 
...moskus said. But before you buy anything, you'll wanna do this. With Cakewalk, mic your pc speaker, and record as audio for a measure. Copy paste as long as you like. Now you have "metronome"... make sure you delete the track before mix down... if you don't think it works, do what moskus suggested.

problem solved

it wasn't the dxi that was messed...i just figured it was..because once i added it..everything got off time

it was the metronome..that was out of time

i changed the metronome to port3..and it was back to normal...except really quiet (even thou velocity was the max)

well..i guess my problem is half solved..thanks for all the help

Well... DXi ain't supported in CWPA9... :confused:
 
Ahh... did you use the horrible Microsoft GM Softsynth-thingie for the metronome?
 
Must be... How can one person state that it works for another person? :confused:
 
no we're not the same person.
